Digital Microscopy Image Analyser  is a system created to extract and analyse meaningful information from photomicrographs captured using state-of-the-art digital microscope camera. Image analysis can be as simple as measuring a linear two point distance or as sophisticated as identifying the grain size number of ferrous materials using pattern recognition, by means of digital image processing algorithms.

The advent of computers has made possible the analysis of large amounts of data, for tasks that require complex computation, or for the extraction of quantitative information. In addition, it allows the collection of more sample data to deliver a result which can better postulate the actual scenario.

The principle of image processing and analysis is generally based on what and how humans see/visualise the object of interest.
